What image tools do with your files, what browser extensions can actually see, and how to tell the difference between a claim and a guarantee.
ConvertingPrivacy
A folder of images can be converted on your own machine by the OS, a desktop app, the command line or a browser page. What each one handles, what it costs, and where ours stops at 150 files.
ExtensionsPrivacy
Four image converter extensions, read from what each one actually declares in its manifest rather than what it promises in its listing. The broadest permission on the list is ours too.
ConvertingPrivacy
Most do what they promise. The real cost is your file landing on someone else's server, and a few that hand back malware. Plus the routes that never upload.
AVIFConverting
No browser can encode AVIF, so there is no Save as AVIF anywhere in yours. Three routes to an AVIF file, what it saves you, and when it is the wrong choice.
PDFConverting
Ctrl+P gives you the page, not the image. Three routes to a one-page PDF from a picture on a website, and the one case where nothing is re-encoded at all.
